Gumbi and Friends knows just how to push the boundaries.

Although an hour late, in what some of the audience referred to as African time, the two-hour-long show still ensured that the audience was not only laughing at the jokes, but also at themselves.

MBOMBELA – Trevor Gumbi and four of his hilarious friends performed to a jam-packed audience of some 300 guests at Emnotweni Casino on Friday.

This formed part of the exciting Trevor Gumbi & The Crème de la Crème nationwide tour. Known for his edgy execution and pushing boundaries, sometimes a bit too far, he once again had his entire audience in stitches.

His entourage, consisting of Thapelo Tips, Mpho Popps, Chris Mapane and local comedian Maanda, didn’t disappoint either. These five comedians made it feel like one cohesive, with one picking up where the other left off and complementing one another brilliantly.

Although an hour late, in what some of the audience referred to as African time, the two-hour-long show still ensured that the audience was not only laughing at the jokes, but also at themselves. Although it seemed that some members became agitated or upset due to numerous racial comparisons, Emnotweni management received no complaints.

“We had about 300 guests attending, which was as per our expectations; and didn’t get any negative feedback from anyone on our side, in fact, we had a couple of comments from invited guests to thank us for a lovely show, says marketing manager, Nicolette Botha.

“South Africa is such a dynamic country with a unique past. It is always great to see us being able to laugh at ourselves,” says Ig Olivier, director of operations and complex general manager.

Tonight, it’s Riaad Moosa’s turn to tickle Mbombela’s funny bone. “Emnotweni brings the lighter side of life to Mbombela with some of the best appearing at The Arena. Not only did we bring you Trevor Gumbi and Friends, but fans can look forward to the award winning Riaad Moosa with his popular show Doctor’s Orders, as well as an exciting line-up,” says Olivier.

Award-winning Moosa, one of the most prolific comedians of his generation, also happens to be a qualified doctor. With his own unique style and the remedy for the country’s irks – a healthy dose of laughter – he is widely known as the comedy doctor. He has been on the local comedy circuit for a number of years and has featured in various shows including Alex Jay’s 5fm Comedy Jam and he also wrote and performed in the Pure Monate Show, which was aired on SABC 1 and ranked the most popular show among the urban youth. A regular headliner on the comedy circuit all over South Africa, Moosa has performed with some of South Africa’s comedy greats, and is famous for his own one-man shows such as Strictly Halaal.

Tickets cost R120 and are available at the casino’s customer services desk. The shows will start at 19:00 but the doors to The Arena will be open from 18:30.

Don’t forget that Emnotweni will host South Africa`s favourite comedian, Trevor Noah and some of his friends, when they go on tour. NationWILD is the first of its kind. This comedic tour will visit Emnotweni on October 3, 4 and 5. Book your tickets now at Computicket- they cost R250 and according to the casino management, are being snapped up like hotcakes.
