PHOTOS: La Pointe studio gives colour to the stage

The concert was held at the civic theatre last week.

MBOMBELA – La Pointe Studio’s annual ballet show had a very fitting opening last week.

The show, performed on Wednesday and Thursday, was themed “Paintbrush”. “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness.”

This passage from Genesis 1 was one of the opening lines. It continued by stating that without light, there is no colour, and we would live only in a world of dullness and darkness. The dancers pliéed and jetéed to the delight of the crowd.

It was especially the tiny tots of the studio who caused the members of the audience to let out a very audible “Aw”.

The show was choreographed by the owner of the studio, Su-Mari Swart, who said that they wanted more of a variety concert and not just a ballet recital.

So they incorporated other art forms like singing, poetry and, of course, painting. The different classes of the ballet school represented all the various colours of the rainbow while painters, Maritha du Plessis and Wouter de Witt (Ghost), painted those exact colours in the background.

At the end this formed a cross, showcasing the studio’s Christian values and emphasising that we are God’s paintbrushes sent out to bring colour to the world.

The charitable studio also aims to donate the proceeds of the show to various causes.

They also invited senior citizens to the dress rehearsal of the show last Saturday, so that they may enjoy the show free of charge.

The show’s income will be donated to Jordan Fitzgerald, the Lincoln Joubert Trust Fund, and Zanri Niewoudt, all children in need of expensive medical treatment.
