It took place from December 14 to 16 at Margate Sport School in KwaZulu-Natal.

More than 170 entrants from all over South Africa participated in this competition.

Tanya Edwards-Smith, from the dance studio said after the competition this past weekend, they have a record of 34 South African champions in solo and team events since their opening in 2001.

Rhythm Image Studio offers dance lessons for all types of dance including Latin, hip-hop, classic, ballroom and more.

The studio had 26 competitors from ages eight to 30 performing in different styles.

“There is classic; which is made of contemporary, jazz, ballet and Spanish dance styles; Latin; which is made up of cha-cha, samba, paso doble and jive; and energy; which is made up of NRG, bhangra, slow style and hip-hop,” she explained.

Daniela Bezuidenhout (two titles), Tenei Stander, Lulutho Makaula, Sulize de Beer, Leandrie Botes, Maryssa Erasmus and Thabo Khoza were awarded their South African colours during the competition.

The following dancers each won gold medals in their categories (Championship medal winners)

• Daniela Bezuidenhout got a gold medal in the Junior Youth Championship Classic category and is 2018 SA champion.
• Leandrie Botes got a gold in the Youth Championship Classic category and is 2018 SA champion.
• Lulutho Makaula got a gold in the Juvenile Championship Latin and is 2018 South African champion.
• Daniela Bezuidenhout got a gold medal in the Junior Youth Championship Latin category and is 2018 South African Champion.
• Tenei Stander got a gold in the Juvenile Championship Energy category and is 2018 South African champion
• Sulize de Beer got a gold medal in the Junior Youth Championship Energy category and is 2018 South African champion
• Maryssa Erasmus got a gold in the Senior Advanced Championship Energy category and is 2018 South African champion
