Nelspruit: Area Guide

Surrounded by the Lowveld and brimming with a variety of highlights, Nelspruit is a perfect place for experiencing the best of Mpumalanga.

Nelspruit is a go-to place for those who are either planning a move to, or visiting, Mpumalanga. The town and its surrounds boast numerous points of interest that will pique the interest of many a traveller, as well as various amenities that are sure to appeal to property buyers.

Firstly, it’s worth noting that Nelspruit is home to the Lowveld Botanical Gardens. It’s a gorgeous spot with highlights that range from waterfalls (formed by the Crocodile and Nels Rivers) and an African Rainforest that comes with its own aerial walkway, to both a restaurant and a charming tea garden.

The gardens are actually a great starting point for those who seek to explore the area around Nelspruit.  About half an hour out of town are the eye-popping Sudwala Caves, while in the other direction, and only a bit further away, is the vast and wonderful Kruger National Park.

Other natural landmarks in Mpumalanga that are also not to be missed include Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Blyde River Canyon, the Pinnacle, God’s Window and several waterfalls and nature reserves. Many of these can be visited along the popular Panorama Route. Nelspruit is also home to its own nature reserve.

You might be sold on the idea of waking up in Nelspruit on a regular basis. If you did, you’d find it a pleasant and inviting place to live. The town has numerous schools, from Nelspruit Primary School and Carpe Diem Primary, to Lowveld High School, Penryn, St Marks International School, and Curro Nelspruit. It also boasts several commercial centres, gym franchises, eateries and medical facilities. And for those who might regularly use public transport, there’s not only a train station in town, but a few bus services as well.
