Social worker wants to see change in KaNyamazane
She recently motivated 26 former addicts to stay clean.
One KaNyamazane lass who is passionate about seeing a drug-free street is none other than Sarah Mthombothi.
The 27-year-old University of Pretoria graduate uses her free time to volunteer her social-work services at the KaNyamazane Medical Centre, run by Dr Gcina Mavuso.

The centre provides therapy and counselling services for the youth who are recovering and rehabilitating from substance abuse.

This comes after she learned from her father and role model, Jerry Mthombothi, about Mavuso’s initiative to help drug addicts conquer addiction.
“Before I could even agree, I was already a part of this initiative due to my father’s persuasive nature,” she said. “It was easy for me to agree to because I knew exactly what was expected from a social worker in terms of helping substance-addicted people.”
Mthombothi’s first experience with victims of drug abuse was during her previous work at Sanca in Emalahleni.

“That was where I got all the experience of working with victims of substance abuse – especially nyaope addicts – and developed a passion in that field. I personally believe that every person deserves a second chance in life; people should not be described by their mistakes,” she said.
