Livelethu Primary School children learn more about nature conservation

The children were taught about the importance of trees, what trees means to carbon emissions in the environment.

Various stakeholders joined hands in planting 20 trees at Livelethu Primary school to celebrate National Arbor Week from September 1 to September 7.

“We have been planting trees for the past six years. We choose a different school each year and this time we chose this school because as it is one of underprivileged schools that borders the Kruger National Park.

We taught them about the importance of trees, what trees means to carbon emissions in the environment. We hope they will in turn teach their parents and urge them not to cut down trees for firewood,” explained Estelle Roe of Junxion Communication and the Stop Poaching Endangered African Rhino (Spear) organisation. They made an appeal to children to look after the endangered species and stop rhino poaching. Representatives from the environmental management taught the learners about the importance of keeping the environment clean. Lucky Mbuli, the principal of the school said, “This day means a lot to us. Some of the stakeholders committed to help the school going forward. Our children learned a lot about nature and how to conserve it. As they grow up the will know that they need to preserve nature. We hope they will spread what they learned today to their families and friends”. Livelethu had a total of 110 learners with only a half attending school on the day as per the health regulations on social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The children received gifts and eggs from the stakeholders.
