Over 1 000 suspects arrested in joint operations in Limpopo
During the operations, the SAPS recovered firearms, stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons, stolen properties such as electrical appliances, clothes, cellphones and groceries, liquor, illicit cigarettes and various drugs including cocaine, crystal meth and mandrax.
SEKHUKHUNE – The Limpopo SAPS has arrested 1 316 suspects aged between 23 and 50 during ongoing joint operations activated to fight criminal activities across the province.
A total of 231 suspects were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act.
The recent arrests were effected between October 17 to 26 and the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, robberies, rape, sexual assault, theft of motor vehicles and stock theft to possession of and dealing in drugs and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“On Monday, members of the highway patrol team received a complaint about a truck delivering groceries at Jane Furse that was hijacked on the R33. They swiftly responded and with assistance of the Tracker company, the truck was traced to a store in Botlopunya Village. The police searched the premises and recovered all the stolen groceries worth over R200 000.
The owner of the shop, aged 36, the driver of the truck (33) and another suspect (27) were all arrested,” revealed the Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo.
Meanwhile, the highway patrol team also arrested a 41-year-old suspect in Machakaneng Village in the Sekhukhune District Municipality after he was caught driving a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
The members were busy with their normal patrol duties when they noticed a speeding VW Golf 5. After the vehicle was stopped and a thorough investigation conducted, they discovered it had been reported stolen
in Wierdabrug in Gauteng.
