Electro Diesel Steelpoort hands out groceries to disadvantaged communities

EDG Steelpoort’s management said this was to boost needy families that were hugely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; this was also part of giving back to the local communities.

Christmas came early for some Malaeneng, Mahlakoena and Tukakgomo residents when they received food parcels from Electro Diesel Group (EDG) Steelpoort on November 3. The company handed out food parcels to more than 21 local families. The groceries included maize meal, washing powders, beans, sugar, tinned foods, cooking oil, bath soap and many more basic products.

More than 21 families received the groceries.

EDG Steelpoort’s management said this was to boost needy families that were hugely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic; this was also part of giving back to the local communities. The parcels were delivered door to door to needy and deserving families. EDG‘s Merriam Nkuna said the company was targeting the most disadvantaged families. “We noticed many households are struggling,” she said.

Families were excited to have received the groceries.

“Some family members who were breadwinners lost their jobs during the pandemic. We decided to assist with the little we have.” She said they worked with local structures to identify deserving families. She said they will look at other sectors like sports in order to improve the lives of local communities. Dinah Maleka, one of the beneficiaries, said the groceries would make the difference.

Some of the groceries were handed to the people.

“I’m happy with the food parcels. It will make a difference to us as we are struggling.” She called on other organisations to do the same.

Fellow beneficiary Maria Choma also thanked the company for a “great initiative”. “It is the first time I receive a food parcel ever since the lockdown started,” she said. “Other people in my area received them already. I thank members of EDG for remembering us. “It’s basic items we use on daily basis, these groceries can last us for a month and a few days,” said the excited beneficiaries.
