New bridge to be erected for Mokobola

According to the residents, the bridge was poorly built and untarred. “We felt the contractors did shoddy work. The children are often assisted by community members and teachers when crossing,” said one of the parents.

BURGERSFORT – The days of Mokobola Primary School learners bunking classes when it rains will be a thing of the past.

The Limpopo government has confirmed an access bridge leading to this school in Mabotsha Village will soon be built.

It is a huge challenge for the pupils to attend classes when it is raining. They risk their lives crossing a flooded river on their way to school. The old bridge was damaged by floods in 2019.

According to the residents, the bridge was poorly built and untarred. “We felt the contractors did shoddy work. The children are often assisted by community members and teachers when crossing,” said one of the
parents.

On Friday, the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure confirmed a contractor has been appointed for the project.
“A contractor was recently appointed and the local municipality will ensure the project starts with immediate effect,” said an official from the  department.

The school’s parents told Steelburger/ Lydenburg News they were relieved to hear a contractor was appointed to rebuild the bridge.
