Team Limpopo excels in indigenous games

Team Limpopo brought home a total of 11 medals, eight gold, one silver and two bronze. The team competed in games such as morabaraba, jukskei, dibeke, ncuva, khokho, diketo, kgati, intonga and driestokkies.

A formidable and capable Team Limpopo has delivered, and was ranked second at the National Indigenous Games Festival at the Ugu Sport and Leisure Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.

The games started on Heritage Day and were completed on September 28.

Welcoming the heroes home, Michael Moatshe of the Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture encouraged locals to play indigenous games.

“Welcome home, our pride and joy, and thank you for representing Limpopo well and putting our province on the map.
“Let’s go back to the days wherein children played dibeke till the sun went down. Playing these games teaches kids social skills and at the same time, gives them good exercise.”
