The mining company visited various schools on January 15.
Northam Booysendal Mine donated some schoolbags and stationery to the local schools as part of its back-to-school campaign on January 15.
The donations were handed to the Grade Ones attending school for the first time.
Present were also the Bakoni ba Phetla and Phuthanang Communal Property Association (CPA) members.

The mine’s management, led by Booysendal North Mine’s General Manager Otto, Van Heerden, and the stakeholder engagement team first visited Thaba Chweu Boarding School in the Mashishing Circuit where they handed over schoolbags, each packed with stationery essentials that consisted of sharpeners, erasers, HB pencils, scissors, wax crayons, rulers, glue sticks, snacks and many more gifts.
At Thaba Chweu, a total of 75 packs were handed to the delighted pupils.

Speaking during the handover, Van Heerden said: “You need to look up to your superheroes. Learn from them and how they succeeded. You are the leaders of the future. We need the young minds of today to change the world for the better. Lead by example. With hard work, you can achieve your goals. Ask your educators when you don’t understand. As pupils, you will spend 2 400 school days learning before you pass your matric. Be happy, enjoy your schooling, take each opportunity to learn and be the best you can be.
”The principal of Thaba Chweu, Gabriel Montle, and the Mashishing Circuit’s manager, TG Mokwena, were on cloud nine about the donations. They urged the local mines to join Booysendal in their campaign to improve education locally. “Through the assistance and support from the private sector and other stakeholders, our matric results have improved immensely. We achieved a 97.6% in the 2024 matric results, after we had garnered 63.6% in 2023. We continue to plead with the mines to assist with sportsgrounds as we have 1 200 kids at our school who are passionate about education and sports,” said Montle.

The Booysendal Mine team proceeded to Thabong Primary School in Vleeschboom, in the Eensaam Circuit, where they continued handing out stationery packs and schoolbags. The group was welcomed by the circuit manager, MJ Talane, the school principal, Kgwale Ramaisela, and representatives from Tshufi Forum and the Phokwane Tribal Authority.
At Thabong, 295 packs and schoolbags were handed over to the school.
At Makgopheng Primary School 30 stationery packs and schoolbags were donated.
In total, the mine donated 400 stationery packs and schoolbags through the back-to-school campaign.

The Stakeholder Engagement Manager at Booysendal, Pius Monyela, said this initiative is more than just a donation. “It’s an investment in building strong educational foundations and inspiring young minds to dream big. We’re passionate about educational initiatives that ignite an interest in learning and set young minds on the path to success. We want to be part of the journey; we want to see these pupils succeed.”
