Government has shut down illegal initiation schools

Initiation is a rite of passage marking entrance or acceptance into a group or society. In an extended sense it can also signify a transformation in which the initiate is 'reborn' into a new role

The government has shut down 17 illegal initiation schools start of the initiation school season this winter.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Obed Bapela, on Tuesday. He was speaking on the mountain in Meadowlands in Soweto, where local residents burnt down one of the closed illegal schools on Saturday.

Prince Manene Tabane, Gauteng chairperson for the Congress of Traditional Leaders of SA (Contralesa), said the government has rescued 111 boys from illegal initiation schools since the start of this winter.
