Wanted suspect nabbed during tracking operation

A suspect wanted for an alleged carjacking in Nebo was arrested in Mamone Village on Monday.

Erick Tjatji Rantho (46), whom police have been searching for in connection with an alleged carjacking in Nebo and a house robbery in Springs, Gauteng, was arrested in Mamone Village on Monday (November 17).

Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Masekela Magoro said Rantho was nabbed during a multidisciplinary operation by tracking teams from Mopani, Nebo and Jane Furse, and the Sekhukhune Flying Squad.

A search at the premises where Rantho was found in Mamone Village led to the recovery of two cellphones and two plasma televisions positively linked to a house robbery in Maake, Tzaneen.

“Additional items, including a television, refrigerator, laptop, grinders, microwave, and sound system, were also found in the possession of the suspect. The suspect was unable to account for the items, leading to his arrest for possession of stolen property. Furthermore, a Star Norinco pistol loaded with live ammunition was found during the search, leading to additional charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition,” Magoro explained.
