World Aids Day build-up event hosted in Jane Furse
Limpopo Department of Health engages with the community in Jane Furse about World Aids Day.
Under the theme ‘Renewed Efforts and Sustainable Communities to End Aids’, the Limpopo Department of Health engaged with members of the community at the Jane Furse Special School last Tuesday ahead of the commemoration of World Aids Day today (December 1).
Deputy President Paul Mashatile is expected to officiate a national commemoration at Ga-Masemola Stadium today.
The department highlighted the province’s commitment to closing the 1.1 million national missing HIV/Aids patients’ gap, including the 189 000 individuals who are still unlinked to care in Limpopo.

Neil Shikwambana said the event emphasised the urgent call for communities to prioritise HIV testing, TB screening, Pap smears and non-communicable disease assessments to ensure early detection and improved health outcomes.
The department further encouraged residents to strengthen collaborations between families, schools, and healthcare workers to build resilient and informed communities.
The residents received the message that ending Aids requires consistent action and accessible services, and empowered citizens to take charge of their health.
Shikwambana said the event demonstrated the department’s ongoing commitment to bringing services closer to the people and ensuring that no one is left behind as Limpopo advances towards the 2030 goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat.
