Dagga worth R1m seized, suspects granted bail

Two men were granted R3 000 bail each in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court after a R1 million dagga bust near Ga-Moraba Village.

Thapelo Petlela Komana (24) and Joel Rikhotso (44), facing charges of possession and dealing in dagga, were granted bail of R3 000 each when they appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

SAPS Leboeng members arrested Komana and Rikhotso on February 21 after they were found in possession of dagga valued at about R1m.

The police operationalised intelligence-driven information regarding a blue VW Polo transporting a large consignment of dagga along the R36 near Ga-Moraba Village.

Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the police located the vehicle parked along the road with Komana and Rikhotso inside.

The police discovered seven bags of dagga stashed in plastic bags, wrapped with brown tape, and arrested the suspects.

“The confiscated dagga weighed about 117.45kg with an estimated street value of R1m,” Ledwaba said.

The court postponed Komana and Rikhotso’s matter to April 21 for further investigations.
