District backs Ramaphosa’s directive on water crisis
The Sekhukhune District Municipality strives to mobilise resources to ensure the revival of bulk water projects.
Sekhukhune District Municipality, as a water authority in the region, has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s instruction to the Departments of Water and Sanitation and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to urgently address the challenge of water shortages in communities.
Executive Mayor Minah Bahula said as a water authority and water service provider, the district welcomes the political instruction.
Bahula was speaking during the opening of the three-day Institutional Strategic Planning Session held at the Loskop Dam yesterday (Wednesday).
The session aims to realign the district’s priorities and strengthen institutional performance.
“We must also openly critique our own performance here at home. This call also challenges us to wake up from our laurels, make the necessary contributions, and change the water shortage narrative in our district,” Bahula said.
Bahula further highlighted the institution’s activation of its rapid response team to make urgent interventions on water shortages.
“Although borehole interventions are assisting in the interim, they cannot serve as permanent solutions, as some become dry during winter. Hence, we have mobilised to revive our bulk water projects,” Bahula added.
