Mayor acts to address water problems
Sekhukhune Executive Mayor Minah Bahula visited Ngwaabe Village in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality to address water shortages.
The ongoing water supply challenges in Ngwaabe Village in Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) prompted Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor Minah Bahula to embark on an intervention drive in the area last Monday.
Municipal spokesperson Lemson Moropjane highlighted that the visit was intended to intensify the programme to revive and restore dysfunctional boreholes, as an interim measure to ensure communities have access to water.
The district municipality is considering availing functional boreholes at this stage, while sustainable water supply solutions are being pursued for long-term provision of the commodity.
“During the oversight visit in Ngwaabe Village, four boreholes were inspected, two in Makita Section and the other two in Maphopha Section, to assess their status and determine the required interventions to return them to full functionality,” Moropjane shared.
Bahula instructed the technical team and the newly introduced contractor for the project to urgently attend to all identified dysfunctional boreholes in the area.
The mayor urged that the work on the boreholes be completed within the next two weeks, starting from the day of the visit.
Moropjane informed that a similar programme would be extended to Ga-Maepa Village, which also faces challenges of water supply.
Bahula was accompanied by MMCs, local councillors, and FTLM Council Speaker Vincent Shoba during the visit.
Bahula has led several borehole revivals and restoration initiatives across the district. She has made a commitment to provide boreholes to traditional authorities, to ease access to water for community members, as the district continues to battle the predicament of a lack of water.
Several traditional authorities already have their boreholes installed, assisting large numbers of community members with water.
