June new vehicle sales: How South Africa compares

South Africa’s new vehicle sales remained negative in June for a second consecutive month, with the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA) recording a 1.6% drop from 46 663 units last year, to 45 939 this year.

With the exception of Brazil, the greater majority of markets were also down, especially in Canada (-7.2%; 185 741), Australia (-10.0%), Japan (-0.7%; 450 000), Germany (-4.7%; 325 231) and France (-8.4%; 230 965).

As a comparison, here is how South Africa’s top 10 best sellers in June rank against those from Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom and the United States.

It is worth noting that both Ford and General Motors have posted sales figures of their respective models for June in the United States, though only expect these to be revealed on a quarterly basis for the remainder of the year.
