Toyota GR Corolla shows more of itself in new teaser

Latest teaser once again confirms the same GR-Four four-wheel-drive system as the GR Yaris and the G16E-GTS 1.6-litre three-cylinder engine.

Toyota has dropped the biggest clue yet pertaining to the eagerly awaited new GR Corolla in a fresh teaser image posted overnight.

Coming just over a week after the confirmation of several details via an interior image, the latest snap, shared by the brand on its North American Instagram page, shows the Golf R-rivalling GR Corolla in a shipping yard “obscured” by a series of containers and wearing the same Gazoo Racing camouflage as the Supra and GR86 did before their official reveals.

Just visible is a distinct deep lower air intake, what appears to be wire-pattern alloy wheels and down the side of the doors, a big GR-Four sticker once again confirming the same intricate four-wheel-drive system as the GR Yaris.

Despite being revealed in the previous teaser, an inscription on the red shipping container again indicates the presence underneath the bonnet of the G16E-GTS 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine used in the GR Yaris.

Output, as hinted at last week, will be the same 200 kW or 268 horsepower as the Japanese market GR Yaris, with the six-speed manual gearbox likely to be standard, potentially joined by an automatic if the initial teaser is anything to go by.

A final launch date is yet to be established, but given the rate at which the teasers are being released, expect the GR Corolla to officially make its world entrance next year and not in 2023 as rumoured until now.
