Home team aims high

Mpumalanga News wishes the home team all the best at the national play-offs.

The draw for the ABC Motsepe League national plays-offs finally took place in Johannesburg on Monday, with the home team, Mbombela United pitted in the group A, already dubbed the group of death.

United were drawn against four other strong contenders, Roses United, African All Stars, Milford FC and Glendene United.

Besides gaining promotion to the National First Division, Tingwenyama also stand a chance of winning a cool R1 million.

The tournament will take place in the capital of Northern Cape Province, Kimberly from Monday, July 20 to 26.

“This is the toughest group hence it has been dubbed the group of death, but we are ready for this challenge and I want to believe that we stand a better chance of topping this group.

“We have brought all our players and I am sure the coach would be spoilt for choice,” said the team manager, Stanley Soko.

The team is already camping in Bloemfontein, a move which would help them adapt to the cold and windy Northern Cape weather.

Soko said some of his players had already contracted flu but he was hopeful that, come match day, all his players would have been cleared for game time.

The home team will be making their second ever appearance at the national play-offs, which according to Soko gives them the upper hand in terms of experience.
