Weather plays havoc on South Africa’s roads
Several horrific accidents were reported across the country over the weekend.
The damaging and destructive weather across the country this weekend not only left floods and fires in its wake, but also contributed to multiple accidents.
Two people died in a crash 1.2km north of the Tugela Plaza on the southbound carriageway of the N3 on Van Reenen’s Pass yesterday afternoon, reported Northern Natal News. The bodies were trapped in the wreckage.
Also on the N3 at Van Reenen, a tanker and a heavy motor vehicle collided yesterday, the newspaper reported.
Northern Natal News also reported that a vehicle was washed away in the Bergville area yesterday. According to reports, one person was rescued, and one is missing.
Also in KZN, the Zululand Observer reported that four people were killed and two others injured in a collision between two vehicles on the R66 near Ulundi yesterday.
In Mpumalanga, a head-on collision on the R40 between Nelspruit and Barberton claimed two lives. According to an article published by the Lowvelder, ER24 responded to the accident, which happened near entrance three of Church Unlimited. Of the six occupants in the two vehicles, two were trapped and pronounced dead on the scene by ER24 paramedics. Two others sustained serious injuries while the remaining two sustained moderate injuries.
A five-vehicle accident occurred on the N4 Schoemanskloof between Patatanek and Old Joe’s Monument yesterday at 14:00. Lowvelder reported that four people were injured.
