Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi noted with concern the warning of a cold front expected to hit the City of Johannesburg.

“The South African Weather Service earlier focus suggests extremely cold temperatures in most parts of Johannesburg, from this Friday towards the weekend. Residents are urged to exercise caution while using heating devices. Make sure that all the heating devices are not left unattended while in use, things like paraffin stoves and heaters.”

High alert

Mulaudzi also warned people to monitor young children to ensure that they stay away from heating devices.

“Our residents in informal settlements who are using mostly imbaula or braziers to ensure that they are using it in a well-ventilated area.
