Level 2 warning issued for damaging winds in three provinces on Tuesday
Adverse weather conditions will be experienced from 10am to 6pm in the Northern Cape, Free State and North West.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Level 2 warning for damaging winds in three provinces on Tuesday.
This a few days after warning of veld fire conditions in several places in the Northern Cape and Free State provinces.
“Large uncontrollable veld fires were observed in the past week when north-westerly winds reached 50km/h over the central interior.
“Moreover, few ‘high-based’ afternoon thunderstorms are also expected in the southern Free State, and such high-based storms are known of resulting in strong surface wind gusty conditions during the change of season as the lower part of the atmosphere is still much drier,” said the weather service of the Free State on Tuesday.
Residents of the province will experience:
- Difficult driving conditions
- Difficulty in executing wind sensitive operations like working on top of the roof structures
- Localised power and communication interruptions
- Difficulty in controlling run-away veld fires
- Loose debris blown around
The weather conditions will be experienced from 10am to 6pm.
In the Northern Cape, “large uncontrollable veld fires were observed in the past week when north-westerly winds reached 50km/h over the central interior.
“Moreover, few ‘high-based’afternoon thundershowers are also expected in the Northern Cape, and such high-based storms are known for resulting in strong surface wind gusty conditions during the change of season as the lower part of the atmosphere is still much drier.”
The same weather conditions are expected in the North West province, with the weather province warning drivers to be careful on the roads.
While most of the country will experience clear weather conditions this week, the weather service expects a cold front to rush through the south-western parts of the Western Cape, “where we are expecting isolated showers over those areas during the course of Monday evening.
“Isolated showers are expected along the south coast of the Western Cape and Eastern Cape. Temperatures will remain cool in the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape provinces on Tuesday.”
