Man robbed of R42k outside bank

When he left the bank and returned to his vehicle, he was allegedly approached by three armed men.

A man was robbed of the R42 000 he had drawn at a bank in Church Road, Westville, in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, the man went to the bank on Church Road to withdraw money on Tuesday, Highway Mail reported.

“When he left the bank and returned to his vehicle, he was allegedly approached by three men who pointed firearms at him demanding the money which they took and fled in a getaway vehicle. No shots were fired, and no one was injured,” said Mbhele.

A case of armed robbery was opened at Westville Police Station.

Police appeal to anyone who might have information about the whereabouts of the men to contact any local police station or call the Crime Stop number on 0860010111.

KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner Major-General Bheki Langa again warned people not to withdraw large amounts of cash.

“People may use other safe transaction methods rather than to withdraw large amounts of cash. Always beware of suspicious-looking people who might attack and rob you when you carry cash,” he said.
