Missing man found dead in Pinetown lodge

It is alleged the deceased booked into a Pinetown lodge on the day he was reported missing.

The body of the missing Redhill resident Sanjay Dukhi was discovered at a lodge in Pinetown a day after he was reported missing.

Dukhi had been missing since last Monday.

His wife appealed for any information after his disappearance.

The news of his death was confirmed by Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa).

In a statement, Rusa said the 38-year-old’s body was found in a room at a Pinetown lodge.

“The Redhill resident was believed to have boarded a taxi on the day he went missing. He was to meet a friend in West Street in Durban central, however he failed to arrive at the meeting point. His family, police and Rusa members conducted an extensive search for him.

“His family was informed that he was found deceased after the discovery was made today [Tuesday, 6 June]. Circumstances surrounding Sanjay’s death are subject to investigation,” they said in a statement.

Pinetown police issued a statement requesting information about the deceased’s family on Monday, June 5.

Police spokesperson Captain Bongumusa Manqele said it is alleged that the deceased had booked a room at a lodge in Pinetown on Monday, May 29, (the day he was reported missing).

“The deceased did not check out on the next day and when the security guard went to check  the room, he  discovered the body of the deceased hanging inside the closet,” said Manqele.

Pinetown detectives issued this photograph from surveillance footage of Sanjay Dukhi entering the Pinetown lodge on Monday, 29 May.
