Police discover 20 explosive devices in bakkie
The explosives were allegedly used to bomb ATMs.

Police discovered 20 explosive devices and 50 metres of detonation cord in a bakkie driven by two men in their 20s in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, Krugdersdorp News reports.
They believe the explosives were used to bomb ATMs during robberies all over the West Rand. They also found drugs and firearms in the bakkie.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police Station, said their efforts to get rid of criminal elements and activities coupled with the confiscation of these items is part of their effort to clean up the streets.
The suspects were arrested at 7.50pm on Wednesday night, 31 January. The police officers who arrested them were busy patrolling the streets as part of their crime prevention initiatives, when they spotted a suspicious white bakkie driving around in Chamdor. Police stopped them, conducted thorough body and vehicle searches and discovered a variety of dangerous items in their possession.
After they were arrested, the explosives unit was informed. They confiscated the explosives.
The suspects were later detained at Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of unlawful possession of explosives was registered. They will appear briefly in court soon.
Newly appointed West Rand Cluster Commander, Major General Kekana was very impressed by the members’ commitment to ‘Operation Fiela 2’, which was launched by the Minister of Police, Fikila Mbalula, on 23 January.
“The West Rand is going to be one safe area – we will leave no stone unturned,” Kekana said.
