The kidnapper fell asleep while allegedly guarding the victim in a cemetery, and the victim managed to escape.

Police arrested a 24-year-old suspected kidnapper on Friday, May 25, at about 8pm, Krugersdorp News reports.

A man reported that he was at home earlier that day, when six unknown suspects arrived.

“They insisted that he go with them to an unknown destination, accusing him of showing police where they had hidden stolen property,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for  the Kagiso police.

The victim’s hands were tied, and he was forced into the suspects’ vehicle. The suspects then drove to Evaton cemetery, where they left him with one suspect as a guard.

Some time later, the suspect/guard fell asleep, and the victim managed to escape. He spotted some security guards and ran to them, yelling for help. The guards responded swiftly and managed to apprehend and arrest the suspect.

Both the suspect and the victim were taken to Evaton Police Station, where a complaint was lodged.

The suspect was later transferred to Kagiso Police Station, and a case docket of kidnapping was registered. The remaining five suspects are on the run, and police investigations are under way.
