Life imprisonment for KZN rapist

The man guilty of raping a six-year-old received the maximum prison sentence.

The eShowe Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal last week found Thulani Milton Shandu (34) guilty of rape, Zululand Observer reports.

The court heard that children were playing at their homestead in January last year, when the mother of the victim called them for lunch.

The six-year-old victim did not answer her call, and her mother found her coming out of a mielie field.

She started crying and told the mother that she was taken away by a neighbour who raped her.

The mother reported the matter to the family members, and eShowe police were called.

The suspect was arrested on February 1, 2017, and remained in custody, appearing several times in the eShowe Magistrates’ Court before being found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

His name will be recorded in the Sexual Offenders Register.
