Cullinan man arrested for rape and murder of 11-year-old girl

The 44-year-old suspect will appear before the Cullinan Magistrates' Court soon.


Police have arrested a 44-year-old man who has been on the run for allegedly raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl in Refilwe township at Cullinan on May 20.

According Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele, the police had been looking for the 44-year-old man since the matter was reported to them.

Makhubele said the man was finally found and arrested last night in Bronkhorstspruit at about 8.40pm.

“The police followed up on information about the suspect’s whereabouts, they managed to find and arrest him at his hiding place,” Makhubele said.

Makhubele added the suspect would appear before the Cullinan Magistrates’ Court facing charges of rape and murder soon.

“We encourage members of the community to continue working with the police and report criminal activities at their nearest police station or call 08600 10 111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211,” Malamulele said.
