The light motor vehicle was removed from the scene, and no injuries were reported.
Traffic came to a standstill on the M1 North highway in Johannesburg on Tuesday morning when a car caught flames.
The highway had to be closed while the fire was being put out, said Johannesburg metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar. No injuries were reported.
Asked if the vehicle had any links to Ford, Minnaar said: “No, it’s not a Kuga.”
JMPD has confirmed the highway is now open.
A witness reportedly said the driver was driving towards the bridge when the car started smoking. The driver of the car attempted to drive the vehicle to the Carr Street off-ramp. That’s when the car broke down and ignited.
