The SAPS Pretoria East Cluster has arrested 98 people for various crimes including rape, domestic violence and drunken driving during a crime drive and roadblocks over the weekend in Pretoria.
This was part of the cluster’s anticrime operations focusing on tracing wanted suspects, as well as enforcing the Liquor Act and the Road Traffic Act.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said the police also arrested suspects for the possession of drugs, domestic violence, theft and malicious damage to property.
Two stolen vehicles and a motorbike were also recovered during the operations in Section J, Mamelodi. A preliminary investigation revealed that a grey Audi Quattro was reported stolen in the Brooklyn area early this year, a blue Toyota Tazz from the Pretoria central police station and a motor bike in Villieria.
“Since there were only underage children in the house, and no one could account for the vehicles, the police took the vehicles to a police pound for further investigation,” Shibambo said.
All the suspects arrested for serious offences will appear in various courts.
The police have asked the public to assist the Gauteng Saps to fight fraud, corruption unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activities by phoning the Gauteng standby provincial duty numbers: duty general on 082-313-8299 and the duty brigadier on 082-444-4354.
