“The provincial commissioner took note of a video showing a man detained inside a dog cage on an open police patrol van. According to our information the incident dates back to 2019. It shows a man hunched over with his hands in cuffs inside a dog cage on top of an official police bakkie.

“Provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Baile Motswenyane regards this matter as very serious hence she instructed the district commissioner with immediate effect to begin a departmental investigation into this matter. For now we regard the matter as pending and will allow the legal route to unfold,” Makhele said.
