DA tables motion of no confidence in Johannesburg mayor and speaker

Johannesburg's fortunes have been under scrutiny due to claims of deteriorating service delivery and its hosting of the G20 Summit in November.


Less than two hours before Dada Morero is due to give his State of the City Address, the DA has challenged his position as mayor.

The party announced on Wednesday that it will be pursuing a motion of no confidence against Morero and Speaker of Council Nobuhle Mthembu.

Johannesburg’s fortunes have been under scrutiny due to claims of deteriorating service delivery and its hosting of the G20 Summit in November.

“The DA will not stand by while Johannesburg is hijacked by narrow political interests,” the party stated on Wednesday.

“We owe it to every resident to fight for a council that works, a mayor who leads, and a speaker who upholds the rules with fairness and impartiality.”
