Details: How matrics can get help
There are no costs involved for those who need to rewrite their exams, says education spokesperson.

The department of basic education yesterday said matric pupils who fail their final examinations can consider a second chance offered to them to ultimately obtain their National Senior Certificate (NSC) during this year.
“All is not lost, and you are not a failure. The department specifically introduced the Second Chance Matric Programme with the aim to provide support to pupils who have not been able to meet the requirement of the NSC or the extended Senior Certificate (SC),” said department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga.
“This is also a way in which we meet the goals of the National Development Programme and the sector thus increasing pupil retention.”
Mhlanga said for those who failed their matric, there are no cost involved in the programme and all tuition is for free. He said pupils are able to meet the requirements of the NSC or SC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate, increase pupil retention, computer skills, job opportunities and career pathing.
“Pupils are also able to access bursary opportunities for further studies,” said Mhlanga.
Admission for registration are as follows:
Supplementary Exam Candidates: Pupils who wrote the NSC the previous year (2017) and qualify to write a maximum of two subjects to meet the requirements of the NSC Examinations which are written in February/March.
Face to Face Classes will take place in Feb/ March for a period of 12 hours.
Progressed Pupils: Pupils who wrote the NSC the previous year but did not sit for all six subjects (multiple options) and will write the examinations for the outstanding subjects in June.
Face to Face Classes will take place in April/ June for a period of 30 hours. Senior Certificate (amended) Examination Candidates: Pupils registered to write the Senior Certificate (amended) examinations in June.
