While the appointment of new Finance Minister Tito Mboweni received the thumbs-up from all political fronts, his family in Tzaneen, Limpopo, say he is “the cream of the crop”, who will definitely bring a positive change.

His niece, Nhlamulo Mboweni, who runs a crèche in Sasekani village outside Tzaneen, described Mboweni as a family man, who single-handedly put all the members of his family through school up to tertiary level.

Born Tito Titus Mboweni on March 16, 1959, his niece said news of his appointment was a breath of fresh air to the family and to the community of Bridgeway and Sasekane at large.

“He is a big fan of mopani worms, pap and tinned fish,” she said.

“But his word in the family is final. The family respect his views, because my uncle is a truly learned, dedicated and a transparent man, with impeccable credentials,” she said during a visit by The Citizen to the family’s home.

“When news of his appointment came, jubilation became the order of the day. Everyone smiled from ear to ear because we know that under Mboweni’s tutelage, the finances of SA would be in good health as well as the economy of the country.”

The ANC in Limpopo was ecstatic over the appointment.

Provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane said: “With the economy experiencing tough challenges. we are confident the Mboweni we know will rise to it.”
