Hlaudi stopped from motivating learners on the importance of education

The former SABC COO was reportedly stopped at the entrance of the school, with officials saying he was not welcome at the school.

Former SABC chief operations officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng was reportedly stopped from addressing learners at Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ivory Park, Midrand, on Tuesday.

Organisers of the event reportedly said they were informed at the last minute by an official from the district office that Motsoeneng, who had planned to motivate the kids to focus on their studies, was not welcome at the school.

Vuyo Sibiya, the motivational speaker who organised the event, told The Sowetan he was told to cancel the event that took months to organise. Motsoeneng was reportedly stopped at the entrance of the school, and the officials allegedly refused to tell him why, saying they did not want anything to do with him.

Sibiya said he chose the former SABC COO, who even though had no matric certificate, was good with young people. He further told the publication he had seen Motsoeneng speaking to the youth and thought his community would also listen to him and be motivated by him.

But Gauteng department of education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe told the publication proper channels to obtain permission for the visit were not followed.

Motsoeneng blamed the chaos on the DA, saying they were using apartheid tactics.
