ANC supports Ramokgopa’s plans to deal with load shedding

ANC blasts media over its criticism of Ramokgopa and his handling of the load shedding crisis.

The African National Congress (ANC) has thrown its full weight behind Electricity Minister Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.

There have been mixed reactions regarding Ramokgopa’s handling of the load shedding crisis, with some saying he is trying his best while others described him as a PR expert.

Concerns over attacks on Ramokgopa?

ANC NEC member Mmamoloko Kubayi expressed concern at what she described as attacks on Ramokgopa by the media.

“We have seen a growth of lobby groups, and while we respect their rights in terms of the Constitution, we think that we have to at some point be patriotic in terms of the country and put South Africa first.

“We are concerned about the attacks on comrade Sputla (Ramokgopa) by journalists and where we differ, we should differ but what we are having here is an engineering and a technical problem at Eskom,” said Kubayi.

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula, who was addressing the media during the party’s four-day long National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday, said the time for talking was over and that they were a party in action.

The country under the leadership of the ANC has been experiencing an array of challenges ranging from crime, corruption and the current never-ending load shedding crisis.

According to Mbalula they are pleased with the evaluation of the country’s electricity crisis by Ramokgopa.

“We look forward to mobilising all of society behind the decisive actions which we shall emerge from this NEC meeting with.

“Of course, the solutions related to energy are not an end in themselves but an important contributor to ensuring shared and lasting prosperity for all,” said Mbalula.

Ramokgopa addressed the media on Saturday morning on his plans to deal with load shedding in the immediate and long term.

Mbalula said the ANC will never be second guessed and will speak for itself in relation to what the NEC will discuss regarding electricity matters.

“Ours is not a desire to posture but rather what we seek to understand and implement lasting solutions to the energy crisis.

“We take this opportunity to reiterate the national conference and the lekgotla outcomes to ensure that we end this once and for all,” said Mbalula.

Meanwhile the media briefing on the state of coalitions which was scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been postponed.

The briefing was meant to be led by former Gauteng premier David Makhura.
