Load shedding escalates (again) as 9 generating units remain offline

We're facing an even darker week ahead as Eskom is experiencing a delay in returning nine generating units to power.

We’re set to experience escalating load shedding stages this week – beyond what was reported yesterday…

This as delays in returning nine generating units to service add to South Africa’s capacity constraints.

Load shedding escalates… again

Eskom said technicians are working around the clock to ensure offline generation units are returned to service as soon as possible.

Less units, more stages

Capacity constraints due to delayed service restoration is pushing South Africa’s electrical grid to its limits.

At the time of publishing, Eskom reported a delay in returning nine generating units to service.

The breakdowns currently amount to 17,920 MW of generating capacity, while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3,412 MW.

The delays in returning a unit to service at each of the Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Matla, and Tutuka power stations are contributing to the capacity constraints.

Updated load shedding schedule

The embattled power utility said stage 3 will continue until 5am on Tuesday, followed by stage 4 load shedding from 5am until 6pm.

Stage 6 blackouts will then be implemented from 4pm until 5am on Wednesday.

Following this, various stages of load shedding will be carried out according to the roster initially shared on Sunday.

Prepare for increased stages

As blackout stages escalate this coming week, it is crucial for residents and businesses to stay informed about the situation by following Eskom’s official updates.

Take necessary precautions to minimise the impact of power outages – this may include adjusting your plans and investing in backup power sources.

Remember to keep devices, gadgets and power banks charged, and ensure your supply of candles, matches and other load-shedding survival supplies are fully stocked up.
