ANC hits back at Phosa for allegations of David Mabuza’s ‘private army’

By CNS Reporter

The Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of the African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga province is completely flummoxed by the allegations levelled by Mathews Phosa against the provincial chairperson of the ANC, David Mabuza in particular, and the ANC in the province in general.

“We see these allegations and fabrications by Phosa as a desperate attempt to rescue a presidential campaign which died before it came into life,” says the ANC in a statement, Mpumalanga News reports.

The PEC states that Phosa maliciously accused the provincial chairperson, DD Mabuza, of having a personal militia, which goes around disrupting Branch General Meetings (BGM) and intimidating members of the ANC with the intention of achieving certain political outcomes.

“As the PEC, we would like to put on record that, Cde DD Mabuza does not have a personal militia, and is protected by members of the South African Police Service [SAPS], like all Premiers and members of the Executive.”

See the video below of ANC members wielding guns that surfaced in Mpumalanga, former ANC treasurer-general Mathews Phosa claims some of the people seen on the video are ANC chairperson DD Mabuza’s “private army”:

“We further want society know, that he has no personal relationship with the figures shown firing gunshots in the circulating video. Cde DD Mabuza is a law-abiding citizen, who will never encourage the unfortunate events shown in that video,” the statement reads.
