Drugs worth R80k recovered, eight arrested in Phoenix KZN

A multi-disciplinary operation by the Provincial Organised Drug Unit, National Intervention Unit and Durban Metro Police led to the arrest of eight suspected drug dealers in the Phoenix area, KZN, last week, Phoenix Sun reports.

The team first proceeded to a house in Phoenix where a search was conducted. Eighty pieces of rock cocaine, thirty mandrax tablets, three bags of cocaine, ecstasy and dagga were seized by police.

According to police reports, the estimated street value of the drugs is R80 000. Cash of R97 000 suspected to be the proceeds of drugs was also confiscated. The suspected owner of the house assaulted the police officer during the raid and resisted arrest. Three firearms were also confiscated.

The arrested suspects appeared in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on charges of dealing in drugs, failing to safe guard firearms, assault common, crimen injuria and resisting arrest.

The team proceeded to the same scene on Friday, where they recovered more drugs to the value of R20 000. A 19-year-old woman was arrested after she was found in possession of drugs which consisted of heroin, rock cocaine and mandrax. She will appear in court next week facing charges of dealing in drugs.
