Retail store denies claims of food, corpses stored under one roof

By Robinson Nqola

Pick n Pay has denied claims that a building it used as a warehouse east of Pretoria was also a mortuary, Pretoria East Rekord reports.

Spokesperson Tamra Veley said the facility in Rayton has never stored any Pick n Pay products.

“A story published this morning that suggested that a building housed both a mortuary and a food storage facility for a Pick n Pay franchise store is not correct.

“The storage facility mentioned in the reports is not used by Pick n Pay at all. It is used by a nearby service station, which is situated next to the building.”

The Rayton building is about 400 metres away from a Pick n Pay store.

According to earlier reports, products stored under the same roof with corpses included cooking oil, maize meal and soft drink “separated by a four-metre wall”.
