Man tries to rob motorist in front of police car

The Randburg police recently arrested a suspect for attempted robbery, after he failed to notice the police officers behind the man he was trying to rob.

A 29-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of attempted robbery, reports Sandton Chronicle.

According to Captain Makgowanyana Maja, last Tuesday evening the victim was driving on Main Road towards Peter Place in Bryanston.

“He alleges that as he was slowly driving in traffic and approaching the robots, he was approached by a suspect who forced his hand inside his vehicle through an open window,” said Maja.

Maja said the victim drove forward before the suspect could grab anything. The suspect was not aware that the vehicle behind him was a police car. The officers were conducting daily operations at identified hotspots around the policing precinct.

“As they had witnessed what was happening, they jumped out of their vehicle and chased the suspect,” said Maja.

They arrested the suspect and a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was on parole.

“The possibility of an additional charge of violation of parole provisions might be added.”
