Police monitoring Eldorado Park intersections following protest

On Tuesday night police swept through and made a number of arrests that appear to have restored calm to the area.


Police were kept busy on Wednesday morning in Finetown near Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.

Residents are protesting the lack of housing across the area.

Roads have been blocked and cleared, and blocked again. Police were busy monitoring busy intersections to keep them clear. Protesters, however, have retreated into the suburbs and begun setting up roadblocks there.

On Tuesday night police swept through Eldorado Park and made a number of arrests, which appear to have restored calm to the area. However, on Wednesday, some instances of looting were reported by police in Finetown.

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba will be meeting with Eldorado Park residents tonight.
