WATCH: Ramaphosa delivers the 2019 state of the nation address

By Citizen Reporter

President Cyril Ramaphosa is giving his second state of the nation address (Sona) after replacing Zuma as the nation’s number one citizen nearly a year ago.

The lead-up to last year’s Sona was fraught with uncertainty, with no one sure who would end up delivering the address. Ramaphosa ended up delivering a memorable address focusing on hope and the catchphrase “Thuma Mina”, borrowed from a Hugh Masekela song, which he also quoted at length.

This time around has been a far more predictable affair, with Ramaphosa expected to speak about the progress made since last year and some of the plans that have been mapped out, particularly in relation to South Africa’s struggling economy and state-owned entities, especially the debt-ridden power utility Eskom.
