Pretoria taxi industry to run new Gautrain midibus routes
In the last year, the midibus operations transported more than 16 000 commuters per month, which increased the Gautrain’s ridership.

The Gautrain midibus service run by the taxi industry in Tshwane and Alexandra launched more routes on Tuesday, reports Pretoria East Rekord.
The Gautrain midibus service is an extension of the Gautrain feeder and distribution service and is part of the Gautrain Management Agency’s efforts to facilitate partnerships and integration of the taxi industry into the Gautrain system.

The midibus service currently operates at Centurion, Hatfield, Marlboro and Sandton Gautrain stations.
The Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Dr Ismail Vadi officially launched three more new Gautrain midibus service routes at Marlboro station.
The three new midibus routes to Malboro station were from Kelvin, Buccleuch and Greenstone Mall, said Vadi.
“The participation of the taxi industry in the Gautrain system facilitates job creation and the establishment of formal and sustainable businesses within the taxi industry”.
He said the taxi industry was enabled to provide scheduled, safe and reliable public transport services that serve as an extension to the Gautrain service.
“The midibus operations have proven successful in improving accessibility to public transport and the integration of the Gautrain with other public transport services.”
Vadi said in the last year, the midibus operations transported more than 16 000 commuters per month, which greatly increased the train’s ridership.
