Is this the pro-Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma slate?

As we are fast approaching the elective conference, social media is abuzz with the pro-Dlamini-Zuma slate.

Posters have emerged this morning of a probable new ANC top six to be elected in December. As often with pre-elective elective conference campaigning, asking the various politicians slated is most likely to draw a blank. What we can do though is simply discuss who these contenders are.

President: Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma
She was the minister of health during Nelson Mandela era, and was subsequently moved to the foreign affairs affairs portfolio when Thabo Mbeki assumed presidency of the country. She then moved to home affairs shortly before she was installed as chairperson of AU commission.

Deputy president: David Mabuza
Mabuza has been premier of Mpumalanga for as long as Jacob Zuma has been president of the country. According to media speculation, he is a key member of the ‘Premier League’. He was re-elected as provincial chairperson unopposed, a move analysts said emboldened his ambitions.

Chairperson: Lindiwe Sisulu
A daughter of struggle stalwarts, Walter and Albertina Sisulu, ‘Nonceba’, as she is affectionately known, has been a minister of human settlements, defence and military veterans and currently occupies the human settlements portfolio. Critics and supporters agree she is this elective conference’s dark horse.

Secretary-general: Elias Sekgobelo Magashule
Also elected into the premiership in 2009, Magashule is also an alleged member of the ‘Premier League’. It is in the Free State under his leadership where allegations of Gupta dealings first emerged. ‘Ace’, as he is also known, was elected unopposed in 2013 in a rerun of 2012 elections, whose results were nullified.

Treasurer-general: Chockalingam (Roy) Moodley
In 2016, Media24 reported that Siyangena Technologies, a company that won disputed contracts from Prasa worth R4 billion, paid large sums of money to companies directly linked to Moodley. He is a well-known Durban businessman and public friend of Zuma and a benefactor.
