SABC apologises for ‘Mini-Zuma’ mistake

The broadcaster apologised for calling the ANC presidential candidate Dlamini-Zuma 'Mini-Zuma' in a broadcast earlier this week.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) apologised on air to Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for referring to her as “Mini-Zuma” in a broadcast this week.

Dlamini-Zuma is running for the ANC presidency.

Speaking to the SABC in Welkom, in the Free State, on Monday morning, Dlamini Zuma said: “First, the ANC branches will decide that. As you heard, they’re discussing our history, our record in government in the ANC everywhere. So they will not just name a name; if they elect me, it will be because they have looked at my record, they have looked at my integrity, and they’ve looked at everything. Therefore they say, you can lead the ANC.”

While broadcasting this address, the SABC referred to her as “Dr Nkosazana Mini-Zuma”.

“The mistake ran for only one bulletin, and was immediately noticed and corrected‚” Peter Ndoro, a news anchor for the SABC, said in the on-air apology last night.

Co-anchor Francis Herd added to the apology: “The SABC would like to sincerely apologise to the former AU commission chair for the error.”

Times Live reported the SABC’s apology.
