‘I knew in my gut that the Watsons were recording me’ – Agrizzi

After admitting he could be considered a racist, former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi has also confirmed that he knew he was being recorded during his notorious k-word rant which was played on Tuesday at the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture.
Speaking during the final day of his testimony, Agrizzi said: “I knew in my gut that they were recording me but I wasn’t aware that they were trying to entrap me.”
This was in reference to his meeting with the Watson children which preceded the explosive audio that was leaked last September wherein he referred to his former colleagues Papa Leshabane and Johannes Gumede using the k-word.
All morning, Agrizzi has insisted that the full three hours of audio be played and he finally explained that this was because he believed that hearing what the Watson children said would put his words into context.
“That is why I would like, as bad as it is, for you to hear the bad part. The preceding three hours,” said Agrizzi.
When chief justice Raymond Zondo asked if being aware that he was being recorded wasn’t the same as being aware that he was being entrapped, Agrizzi responded: “I thought they were just being protective of themselves.”
“I actually didn’t realize chair, I wasn’t in the right state of mind,” he added.
