WATCH: Cape man downs whole bottle of ‘brandy’ in seconds

If this is real, it would normally be enough to kill the average drinker. Surely it's not real? See for yourself.

In a video posted on Facebook over the weekend, an unidentified man astonishes people with his apparently almost superhuman drinking powers.

The Citizen’s most experienced editor has, however, assured us that it must surely be tea or the man in this video would probably be in a coma or dead now.

The clip has been viewed numerous times already and evoked some comment, with people either condemning it or saying there’s no way it can be authentic.

It starts off with an Afrikaner in a bakkie letting him have a sip from what looks like a bottle of Viceroy brandy, but that first taste is clearly not enough for the guy, who proceeds to take the bottle and polish off what remains of the whole thing.

The bakkie driver tells him it’s okay, encouraging the grateful drinker with “Slat hom!”

The video was apparently filmed in the Western Cape, which has a history of struggling with alcoholism, particularly in the Cape Winelands.

Needless to say, this kind of thing should not be tried at home. A 750ml bottle of Viceroy brandy contains 43% alcohol by volume, meaning that if this was not just a stunt and the guy actually drank this brandy, then he consumed 320ml of alcohol in less than a minute.

According to Quora.com, this could be enough alcohol to reach highly toxic levels in the bloodstream and kill the average person.

For this guy, though, he seems unbothered, and genuinely grateful. The bakkie driver even hands him the bottle cap afterwards for some reason.

We don’t believe it’s not staged. What do you think?
