WATCH: Julius Malema nearly has Thoko Didiza in stitches

The ANC MP struggles to contain her laughter as Malema comments about old members of parliaments across Africa.

National Assembly house chairperson for internal arrangements Thoko Didiza was defenceless against Julius Malema’s rhetoric about the age of the majority of MPs across the African continent; she struggled to contain a chuckle.

The EFF leader was speaking after he was sworn in as a member of the Pan African Parliament (PAP), along with Didiza, National Council of Provinces chairperson Thandi Modise, Mandlesizwe Zwelivelile Mandela and Santosh Vinita Kalyan.

Malema was calling for an increased representation of women and young people in the PAP, saying the youth would strengthen the parliament’s institutional memory.

“We should be able to say we need 50% of the representation here to be women, and there should be consequences for those states that do not send the required representation of women, including young people,” Malema said.

At around 20 to 23 seconds of the video below, the commander-in-chief of the red berets says: “The majority of African parliaments are constituted by old age, and it’s unacceptable,” to which Didiza manages to contain a chuckle.

“And the old age will even be determining plans, calling them 2030 plans, 2063 plan, knowing very well they won’t be here,” the EFF leader added, which led to the ANC MP not being able to contain herself.

“So we need the young ones who will put a plan which they will know that if they do not implement they will still be held accountable in 2063, in 2030.

“How do you hold a 70-year-old accountable in 2063? Nature will not allow for that person to be around at that time,” Malema said in closing.

Throughout, Didiza smiles knowingly in recognition that the EFF leader has quite a point.
